Islam Farouk is an art director from Cairo, Egypt, and the founder of Zukhruff design studio. Islam has worked in the Design/Publishing/Advertising fields since the mid nineties starting out as a little sales dude for a fashion magazine (got them one very juicy contract) before moving to the design department.
Over the years after that he hopped from one agency to the next studio to flying solo until he finally landed.
Choosing a name for the studio was as fun as it was difficult, the studio had to have an Arabic name, it also had to do something with the field of work and it had to be meaningful. That’s when a friend suggested ‘Zukhruff ‘.
Zukhruff, an Arabic name, translates to: adornments or ornaments. It’s what makes things graceful and attractive.
